Brittany Ferries Galicia: Reassuring and disappointing

To the seasoned Brittany Ferries passenger the knowledge that the cruise ferries to Northern Spain were to be replaced was greeted with both delight and concern in equal measure. The acclaimed customer service that we have come to love from the company risked being jettisoned into the bilge tanks as the services of Economie and Cruise combine into what looked to be verging on two colossal floating Chinese car parks accompanied by an assemblage of porta cabins.

Brittany Ferries Galicia: The new “cruise” ferry is an Amorique not a Bretagne despite the reassuringly grip-less laminate flooring, functioning lavatories and decapitating door hinges.

The regular knows that despite often travelling onboard an antiquated second-hand Turkish vessel with a frequent penchant for backing up its own lavatories we have come accustomed to the delight of the service and authenticity that the operation upholds. The well-rehearsed respect and non-judgemental approach of the staff has embraced us all for years, from the awkward Yorkshireman seeking reassurance every few minutes that the internal chronometer governing when tea is ready is indeed on British time to the Voyage Member card holder needing yet a further boost to his pomposity over a preferential restaurant table. The exuberance of this entourage keeps what is essentially a floating bar and grill with hostel accommodation in perpetual comfort and happiness even when compounded by the ski season, budget family holidays to Spain and the overabundance of mobility items guarded by those whom have…
